Papa's Crazy Project was founded in September 1999, by a group of musicians from the
Northwestern part of Switzerland. Already two weeks after the initial get together, the
first public performance took place, and was since followed by many more, mainly at
private events, open airs, and in various clubs.
Since its first public appearance, the band underwent various changes of its
members, and the search for qualified musicians made the group much more
international. For this reason, the band played in various formations consisting of
6-10 musicians, until the present set up was found about a year ago:
Chus, lead vocals
Norbert, sound engineer
Allrounder Chus looks back to many years of music and band experience with various groups
in the Netherlands and Switzerland, and as a bass player in a small english group. His
dutch and indonesian roots result in an explosive mixture on stage.
Ingo is the leader of the brass section, and responsible for the high pitches of the brass
sound. He has a diploma of the Jazz school Freiburg/Germany, teaches music, and plays -
next to Papa's crazy project - with a Salsa-group as well as the well-known "Thomas
Rahel is a pupil of the Jazz school Basel, where she attended the full program as well as the study preparation classes of the music school. Her sax teacher was Domenic Landolf. Various band workshops followed with Michael Chylewski, Loris Peloso, Guenther Wehinger. She enjoyed in-depth training at the Perugia summer school of the Berklee college of music (Boston) as well as her experience with various combos, from a Jazzduet to a quartet and quintet to her actual performance with the 18-heads bigband "Exciting Jazz Crew" (ejc.ch).
After he graduated at the Jazz & Rock School Freiburg, Germany, Thilo now teaches
students, and is active as a drummer and singer with several bands. With us, he
concentrates on his drums. The band relies on his vast experience, and profits from his
solid professional knowledge.
Jacqueline joined the band only recently as our youngest member, and complements Chus with her special voice. Her enthusiasm for singing was noticed already in early childhood, and she now finds her role with Papa’s Crazy Project exciting: next to her qualities as a backing vocalist, she performs some songs as lead singer.
Norbert is our sound engineer, who knows what to do to create the sound we like. He is well aware that a successful concert means perfect sound for the audience, but also for the band on stage. Norbert knows our songs, and is therefore capable to adjust to every need to create the right mix for our performance.
He was the "house-mixer" at the Atlantis in Basel for several years.
